Lily’s First Christmas

A Natural Artist

June 18, 2011 By Tom Sadler

I get some pretty cool gigs as a fly-fishing instuctor and one of my favorites is teaching the MSU Fly Gals each year. Just spending time with these wonderfully accomplished ladies is a joy in and of itself.

This year, one of my former students, Corey Higley, dazzled me with a very special gift!

A C. Higgles hand crafted bird house

Corey crafted this exceptional work of art with all natural materials. The detail is stunning!

Fear no plaid

February 18, 2011 By Tom Sadler

The jesters over at Moldy Chum are goading Tom Rosenbauer in their blog, Thurston! be a good man and fetch my kilt.

Since I know Mr. R is a good sport in every sense of the word I thought I would give him some support and encouragement by showing some tartan solidarity.

Any guesses where the tee shirt is from?
Yup, drinking a tilted kilt...

And as soon as it warms up I am going to add a photo of the latest fashion in tenkara fishing… stay tuned!

Tenkara tea!

January 16, 2011 By Tom Sadler

Yesterday the mail gal brought a special treat to the Middle River Group HQ, tenkara tea!

Retweeting one of @tenkarausa‘s tweets entered me in a contest to receive some new Tenkara USA Tea.

And luck smiled on me!

bourbon isn't the only thing that tastes better in a tin cup...

The tea comes in a handy tin with a measuring spoon and bamboo whisk. The rod is sold separately. The recommended cup is ceramic but I like a tin cup stream side.

Gumbo

December 7, 2010 By Tom Sadler

Cookin gumbo

that beer is for timing. seriously....

When it is cold my thoughts run to gumbo. It is one of those foods that is fun to make as it is satisfying to make as it is to eat.

My “go-to” gumbo recipe is from Chef John Besh. The good folks at Garden and Gun posted a great story, The Besh Gumbo Ever. It is not only a fun story to read, it also has Chef Besh’s wonderful recipe!

Roux

For me the secret to great gumbo is the roux. In the G & G article you will learn one of Besh’s secrets…the 3 beer roux. Works for me!

Enjoy!
