Fishing

Keeper

May 6, 2011 By Tom Sadler

If you have no idea who Martin “Donny” Donovan is I won’t be surprised. I had know idea who he was either.

Donovan has written a book called KEEPER. And unless you have Departure Publishing or Tosh Brown in you Facebook universe you may not have heard of KEEPER either.

Well as it happens Brown is a friend on Facebook. He posted  a status update the other day:”Watch the Departure Publishing page at 10:30AM and snag a free copy of our new book release, KEEPER, by Martin Donovan.”

So I checked it out and the the contest question was: “Only one golfer from ENGLAND has ever won the Masters. What is his name? What year(s) did he win and what were his scores? (enter the +/- stroke totals for the entire tourney, not the daily rounds).”

Any guesses? No? Really?

Thinking About – Fish Hatcheries

April 8, 2011 By Tom Sadler

Been thinking about hatcheries lately.

The next year’s budget for federal fish hatcheries got hit with the budget axe and there are some folks who are pretty sore about it. The “whys” and “wherefores” are complicated. You are gonna have to take my word on that part. That is not something frankly I feel much like writing about.

Uncomfortable questions got me thinking

Things that work – Montana Fly Co. Scissor Forceps

March 20, 2011 By Tom Sadler

Ok so I have thing for hemostats. Not just any hemostats, fine point, curved, mosquito hemostats. Best tool for fishing I could imagine. They look like these (resting on top of the River Camo Montana Fly Co. Aluminum Fly Box)…

They are so important I carry a spare pair when I fish. Nothing could replace them. Or so I thought….

Tenkara Net Auction to Benefit Japan Relief Efforts

March 13, 2011 By Tom Sadler

This was going to be a well crafted post about the outstanding fishing trip I had with my good friend Chris Hunt who writes the ever informative and very entertaining Eat More Brook Trout. But that will have to wait.

Tsunami

The tsunami that struck Japan continues to leave havoc in its wake. Half a world away, the connection to fly-fishing may seem tenuous at best.

But tenkara has deep roots in Japan. And tenkara fishers can’t help but look to Japan for tenaka inspiration, instruction and traditions.

Daniel Galhardo, owner of TenkaraUSA, has very strong ties to Japan and while thankfully the tragedy has not directly effected his family or friends those connections have inspired his to help with the relief efforts.

UPDATE: the Auction has closed and it netted more than $900 for Japan relief efftorts!
