Tenkara Rod Caps Are EZ To Lose

April 30, 2012 By Tom Sadler 7 Comments

Tenkara anglers know that the most likely thing to lose when you go fishing is the end cap on your tenkara rod. The end cap protects the rod when it is housed and keeps things from falling out or getting in.

Dang handy little item.

But there in lies the challenge. Little. Like easily misplaced little.

So having spent some time thinking about ways to keep the little rascal from disappearing I came up with this idea.

Since I have a lot of old fly line lying around I decided it could be put to good use.

I grabbed my power drill and a 1/32 drill bit and made a slight modification to the end caps of my collection of Tenkara USA rods. Then I slipped a short length of old fly line through the hole and tied a figure-eight knot at the end.

Here is how it turned out.

Since I wear a Fly Vines lanyard, I will just stash it there. If I drop it, the bright green line will be much easier to find as well.

Hopefully this will keep the rod caps from wandering off…

Innovation for conservation

January 26, 2011 By Tom Sadler 3 Comments

When I saw a innovative use for old fly line from the folks at Fly Vines I was more than curious, I placed an order.

Conservation as a business model is always a winner in my book. Fly Vines is a great example.

My order arrived earlier this week.

Fly Vines lanyards and bracelets

The lanyards are well constructed and use a simple snap ring as a safety release.

Simple things make sense

January 17, 2011 By Tom Sadler Leave a Comment

I am always on the look out for new ideas that go the simple route. That is why tenkara fishing is so appealing. So when I came across Fly Vines this weekend I was blown away.

These folks are making lanyards from recycled fly line! They are also making bracelets and sunglass keepers.

What an outstanding idea! Conservation as a business model is always a winner in my book.

It certainly fits with my whole tenkara mind set so I immediately ordered a couple of lanyards and bracelets to them check out.

I will post an update with pictures as soon as the goods arrive.

Politics

Insurrection most foul

Gerson’s article, “The U.S. must punish sedition — or risk more of it” captures much of what is going through my mind at this moment.

The post-election political theater has jumped the shark.

BLUF: Time to starve the conspiracy whack jobs and Trump sycophants of oxygen.

The Threat to Democracy is Real

“We opposed Trump because we recognized that what he stood for is an existential threat to the American experiment in constitutional democracy.”
